The Attractions of Pattaya
· easy to get to from Bangkok (110 Baht by bus, 800-1000 Baht by limos and private taxis) · great beaches: Pattaya, Jomtien, Bang Saray and beyond · fantastic night life: bars, discos, two cinemas, recreational facilities · cheaper accommodation than Bangkok · low condo rentals · many inexpensive hotels equipped with A/C, often pools, cable TV, private toilets/showers, etc. from 500 to 1000 baht · cheap restaurants, some offering “all you can eat buffets” · fine dining for gourmets · comprehensive shopping facilities from small stalls to modem shopping malls · many tours on offer · large expat. community, offering friendship and advice · local venues include:
Sports: tennis, golf, horse-back riding, go-kart racing, shooting, archery, bowling, snooker,motor racing, jet skiing, scuba diving, hang-gliding, bungee jumping, microlite and light aircraft flying and gyms.
Pattaya Park - Jomtien Beach, a water amusement park with water slides, whirlpools and alarge pool for children.
Mini Siam & Mini Europe, near Pattaya Klang, displays Thai and European heritage on a miniature scale.
Million Year Stone Park & Crocodile Farm, 9 kilometres from Pattaya: breeding pens with more than 1,000 crocodiles, a zoo, and a bonsai garden decorated with rock formations.
Nong Nooch Village - a host of exotic plants and ornamental gardens.
Wat Yansangwararam - A temple complex under the king's patronage,unique modern Thai architecture. Buddha image on the hill. Chinese museum and temple. 12 kilometers south of Pattaya and 3 kilometers from Nong Nooch.
Siam Country Club and golf club: Km. 145 on Sukhumvit Highway, turn left about 11 kilometers from Pattaya. With 6,448 yards, par 72, it’s one of country's most challenging courses with lots of wooded hills.
Pattaya Elephant Village on the road to Siam Country Club Golf Course - shows elephant displaying forestry skills, playing football and re-enacting the war elephant parade.
Panarak Park - 5 kms. from Pattaya on the road to Siam Country Club Golf Course, offers a tropical garden setting. The park has fishing gear, a well-stocked fishing pond, bungalow accommodations, restaurant, jogging and cycling paths, boating and water-cycling.
The Bira International Circuit: Km. 14 on Route 36 to Rayong, offers international motor and occasional motorcycle racing
Bang Saray fishing village just off the Sukhumvit at km. 164, offers deep-sea fishing opportunities.
Ko Lan - 45 minutes offshore by tourist boat or 15 minutes by speed boat. Major attractions include viewing coral reefs from glass-bottomed boats, snorkelling, scuba diving, windsurfing, skiing and parasailing. There are many seafood restaurants on the island's main beaches. Deep sea fishing can be arranged to Ko Lan's neighbouring islands such as Ko Khrok and Ko Sak.
Ko Phai - currently under the care of the Royal Navy - beautiful deserted beaches. But no overnight stays. Boat charters cost 700-1,500 baht per day depending on high or low season and the size of the boat.
Pattaya Festival -annual event, held in April at the height of the summer season. Food and floral floats, beauty contests, stalls selling local delicacies, and a spectacular display of fireworks on the beach.
